Although I enjoy painting other subjects, portraits are the most meaningful. I love the opportunity to study individual faces and to recognize what is unique in each person.
The best results usually come from photos that I have taken myself in daylight. When possible I like to meet the people I will be painting, when this is not possible, it usually helps to have several photos to work from.
These larger portraits take many hours to complete. Please allow at least 1-3 weeks for individual portraits and 3-6 weeks for those that include two or three people. If planning to order a portrait for Christmas, please try to place your order before December!
Appointments to have photos taken or to review your own photos are free at the artists studio in Carrboro. Arrangements can be made to have photos taken at other locations.

Gallery
Combines background colors of your choice with a pen or pencil sketch and watercolor shading. They can be painted LIVE in under an hour (pose 35 45 minutes) or from a PHOTO (bring a favorite photo and the painting can be completed in about an hour).

I begin these faces with photos of real people and emphasize the features or expressions that intrigue me as I paint. Some of these portraits capture a very real sense of the model; others take on a life of their own and become a new character.
I am always looking for faces to inspire new paintings. Please contact me if you would like to pose for photographs and see what happens! You will receive a complimentary 8 x 10 print of the finished painting and the first option to purchase it.
